There’s no single answer, and anyone who gives you one is selling something. It depends on who uses the kitchen and how carefully.
Here’s how the main benchtops compare:
- Porcelain – Handles heat well, so a hot pan straight off the cooktop won’t mark it. Warm veining is where most of our clients are heading at the moment.
- ĒCLOS by Cosentino – A mineral surface containing no crystalline silica, released in Australia in March 2026, and rated to around 220°C.
- Laminate – Scratch-resistant finishes hold up well in a busy family kitchen, and they look far better than laminate did a decade ago.

What are the steps in a kitchen renovation?
Our process begins at the showroom, and one client manager stays with you from that first visit through to handover.
- Start with a Showroom Tour and see the materials in person. A Showroom Assistant walks you through finishes and cabinetry, and explains how the process runs from there.
- A kitchen designer visits your home for your Project Consultation. They measure the space and talk through custom designs that suit how you live.
- Design & planning happens next, and you see the result in 3D. You walk through the kitchen before a single panel is cut.
- We prepare your Project Costing once the design is settled. It covers the full scope of work you’ve approved.
- Your cabinetry is built at our Bayswater factory. Qualified cabinet makers make every piece to your approved design.
- Certified tradespeople install the kitchen in your home. We bring in electricians where the plan calls for it.

Registered builders who have been making kitchens since 1994
Michael Simpson and Peter Schelfhout have owned TKDC since 1994. Both are registered builders, which is uncommon in this trade. They hold building licences and carry responsibility for the finished work.
Our cabinet makers are qualified tradespeople. They build every kitchen, wardrobe and vanity in-house, so nothing is outsourced. The quality craftsmanship shows in the joinery.
