Kitchen Style Trends 2015 – Part 3
The “airy” style kitchen trend…
A kitchen trend that has been around for years now is the minimalist idea. People want their benches clear from clutter, flat door styles and simple handle designs if anything at all. While this trend is still very popular, it will stepped up a level in 2015. The word being used to describe kitchens now is “airy”. The biggest feature of this “airy” trend for 2015 is to either not have overhead cabinets at all or to have open shelves instead. As society moves further into the minimalist ideal, de-cluttering is huge and stripping back our belongings to simply “what we need” is how this is done. As a flow on from this, kitchen design and storage requirements change. People start to shy away from the cabinets in their direct eye-line that might make them feel like the space is cramped and either create a feature of open shelving with their items on display or simply have nothing there at all. In the case of open shelving, items are easy to access when cooking and preparing, there are no doors to open or have in your way, and you just reach up for what you want. If the wall is left blank, one might take the opportunity to hang a clock or piece of art or simply let the wall be bare – whatever best reflects your style. If storage is an issue, open shelves can be teamed with cabinets to allow for more or different storage while helping to maintain the minimalist feel.
In both of our kitchen showrooms located in Eltham and Blackburn, you can see the difference between these styles compared to that of cabinets.
